We provide individualized speech and language evaluations to assess communication skills for adults and children.

Comprehensive Speech and Language Evaluation

A speech and language evaluation is the measurement of an individual's communication skills.  This can include: articulation skills (pronunciation), fluency, expressive and receptive language, pragmatic (social) language, semantics (vocabulary skills), syntax (grammatical understanding and usage) and functional communication skills.  The speech-language evaluation is conducted through informal and formal methods.  Formal tests are administered as a standardized way to compare individuals to others their age.  Informal assessment includes professional judgment by the clinician, a review of records, observation and parent interview. The specificity of the results provided by the informal and formal testing allows speech-language pathologists to set appropriate goals for therapy and are an essential element in understanding a student's educational profile.

Articulation Testing

Articulation testing involves the assessment of speech sound production of words, sentences and in conversations.  Overall speech intelligibility is assessed in addition to errors with individual sounds.  Sounds that are left off, added or misarticulated may make it difficult for people to understand the speaker.  This type of testing is appropriate for someone only concerned with the way their speech sounds, not with the content of their speech.  Adults or children with speech sound errors or seeking accent modification will only need testing in the area of articulation. The Articulation Developmental Chart shows the expected ages of speech sound development.
